Keynote Speaker:
Kim Phuc, a world-renowned speaker, shared her experiences as someone who has lived through the fear and pain of war, and life as a refugee to now living in Canada and doing her part to improve our world.
Purpose:
● To raise awareness and funds for the Karen Refugees, who have been forced to flee from their home country of Burma (Myanmar).
We raised funds to support two worthy organizations:
● Global Neighbours– a group that the River has supported for awhile. They are raising funds to continue their support of Karen refugees living in Thailand, who need access to schools and an improved orphanage.
● Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers– an organization that is currently supporting Karen refugees who have arrived in Canada, and need funds for community-building initiatives.
