We've asked our pastor to give some recommendations here:

Pastor Bruce:  I love to read so it's hard to know where to begin - and end! I'll offer a few categories with just a few favourite books and/or authors in each.

Basic Christian Living:  Practicing the Presence of God  by Brother Lawrence, Richard Foster´s books, and aside from the promotional hype in the first few pages, I think Rick Warren´s, The Purpose Driven Life is very helpful.

Theology and Postmodern Ministry:  Books by Leonard Sweet, Neil Plantinga, Stanley Grenz, N. T. Wright, Lesslie Newbigin, David Bosch, Philip Yancey, James McClendon, Nancy Murphy, Miroslav Volf (especially Exclusion and Embrace ) and anything written by Brian McLaren.

Spirituality:  Richard Foster´s books are wonderful, as are Dallas Willard´s, especially The Divine Conspiracy and The Spirit of the Disciplines . John Ortberg is a wonderfully readable and humorous author that I cherish. I also love Mike Yaconelli´s books - Dangerous Wonder and Messy Spirituality .  Romano Guardini´s book The Lord is a wonderful biography of Jesus.

Apologetics:  If you're looking for books that help you address important questions about the Christian faith, it's hard to beat Finding Faith by Brian McLaren. Mere Christianity and Miracles by C. S. Lewis are classics. If you're interested in science, John Haught´s God After Darwin is stunning, and John Polkinghorne´s books are very helpful and readable.

History:  I think it's important to get as big an overview of history as possible, and for this, I recommend Jared Diamond´s Guns, Germs, and Steel, Thomas Cahill´s How the Irish Saved Civilization, The Gift of the Jews and Desire of the Everlasting Hills , Philip Jenkins The Next Christendom , Roger Olson´s The Story of Christian Theology , and Dava Sobel´s Galileo´s Daughter.

As for music ... This is a hard one since different people like different kinds of music. If you like to sing while you're making supper like I do, there is a wide variety of Christian worship CDs that you can pick up. Just go to your local Christian bookstore like Christian Publications or Blessings. Brian Doerkson is one of my favorite worship leaders. Some of my favorite listening music include artists like Bruce Cockburn, U2, Fernando Ortega, Bob Bennett, Steve Bell, Chris Rice, and different Celtic bands.

All that being said, I listen to a lot of sports radio in the car, so maybe I'm not the one to ask about this.
